Now lets Start with Domain or Domain Name:
What is Domain or Domain Name?
Domain Name refers to the address of a website, or the name of your website which you can give to people and access it using their browser.
Domain Name In real world example is like the address of a house, if someone now`s the address of your then he/she can visit it using that address. That is also applied to website, anyone can access your website as long as they have the Domain name.
Why Domain Name?
As we already know internet is a very huge network of computers that are connected to each other, and they can communicate with each other as well. So now “How do they identify each other”.
Each computer is assigned with an IP address. It is a series of numbers that identify a particular computer on the internet. A typical IP address looks like this: 192.168.43.1
So imagine you have to remember all of those numbers in order to communicate with other computer(website), And you have dozens of them that you want to access?. This is were Domain come in place.
Now Instead of trying to remember all of those numbers, with Domain name you just have to enter a simple and easy to remember string in you browsers URL box like this: sadeeqtech.com.ng and then boom there you are, you can know recall dozens of website domain Name`s. you left the translating of that Domain Name to IP address to the back-end
How Domain Name Works ?
When you browse the Internet, you type in a domain name into URL bar of your web browser. The web browser and the technology behind it then work their magic and you get the website you requested.
How?
Now Rather than typing those complicated set of numbers (the IP address) into our browser, we just type in a domain name.
When you enter the domain name and hit enter. it first sends a request to a global network of servers that form the Domain Name System (DNS). These servers then look up for the name servers associated with the domain and forward the request to those name servers.
Name Servers: These are computers managed by your hosting company. Your hosting company will forward your request to the computer where your website is stored. and All domain names are connected to a unique IP address of that website.
Subdomain
A Subdomain is a type of domain that relies on another domain, It is a prefix added to the original website`s domain name. And it can stay independent from your main website. you can think of it as a separate branch of you main website, you can create another website without having to buy another domain if you registrar allows you to do so.
You can create a subdomain for the blog of your website example: this is you domain sadeeqtech.com.ng and you can add the prefix of your blog like this blog.sadeeqtech.com.ng. so in this case blog.sadeeqtech.com.ng is the subdomain and the sadeeqtech.com.ng is the main domain. and the blog(the subdomain) will be on it`s own and it will not interfere with your main website.
What is Hosting ?
Well, now that we know a little about domain and subdomain hypothetically the address of our house. Then lets talk about the land were we can build the house(the website), just think of this as that, the place we are going to place our house.
Your Domain, subdomains, HTML,CSS.JavaScript and other media files need a place to be kept. That is were web Hosting come in place, Web Hosting provide a place for all of these thing that will make your website. a place to live and the place is on a server.
The server is a computer somewhere else in a data-center, that has to be be always online. One of It`s responsibility is connects users to your website. And web hosting is the process of renting that server.
That`s all for now. This is the V1 post about Hosting and Domain. more information will be added soon. Thank you for reading.
